Speculation surrounding the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which Xiaomi is rumored to be developing for the Chinese market, is in full swing. With the device expected to be unveiled before the end of this year, reliable leakster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has shared striking details about its new camera capabilities and rear design.
200MP Periscope Telephoto and Large Main Sensor Coming
According to DCS’s latest leak, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a major upgrade to its camera system. The phone will be equipped with a new 50-megapixel primary camera with a significantly larger sensor. This new sensor will offer improved in-sensor zoom technology, ensuring lossless focal length coverage even when switching to a telephoto lens.
The real star of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera system will be the new, large-sensor 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. This lens is expected to support multiple focal lengths without loss of image quality. It is also expected to deliver telephoto macro shots with good magnification, though the close-up focal range isn’t as tight.
The fact that both new lenses provide high dynamic range (HDR) suggests a significant leap forward in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s overall photography performance. Leaks suggest the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a large, circular camera module covering a significant portion of the rear panel. Based on this speculation, the device is likely to lack a secondary display, unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which also powers other Xiaomi 17 series phones, is expected to feature a 6.8-inch flat OLED display with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate on the front. The device is expected to come in three colors: black, white, and purple.
